Feb 19th and it has started. I'm embarking on a 10 day journey of cleansing my colon of all the built up toxins and general "gunk" that our bodies carry around because of the food choices we make(doesnt that sound yummy!!). In a nutshell the 10 day program is primarily a liquid only diet that will attempt to use your bodies innate ability to expel toxins through high volume of liquids. Vitamins and Herbal laxatives are taken in the morning, 6 liters of water consumed each day, with Elderberries and fiber mixed in for flavor and substance. We'll see how that goes.
Today is day 1 which is considered a "prep" day. Fruits in the morning, Vegtables in the evening with an introduction of the vitamins and flavors throughout the day. I haven't felt really hungry all day so far. An apple and an Orange this morning, and a bag of lettuce at lunch is all i've eaten today (besides liquids). Holy crap can that be accurate? Can someone who eats a bagel and coffe for breakfast, a big sandwich and Mt.Dew for lunch and a half a pound of meatloaf for dinner, not be starving after a day of only eating "rabbit-food"? Yup. Thats it. An apple an Orange and a bag of lettuce. Now i'm not gonna lie, the motivation for me isn't to cleanse my body of toxins, i'm purely doing this for the weight loss associated with only consuming 300 calories a day :P but i'm secretly(well ok, not that secretly now) hoping for a better general sense of feeling healthy that i haven't experienced in a few years.
Turning 39 a few weeks ago has really scared the crap out of me and made me think about my own mortality and some changes that needed to be made. Ive realized that if i'm lucky, my life, as wonderful as it has been up to this point, is half over. To weigh 255 lbs and be 6'4" isn't considered terribly obese, but i like being able to get out of bed in the morning without my back hurting cause of the extra 20 pounds ive been carrying around for several months now. I am encouraged that the 10 day plan lays out all the food choices for you. Sort of like your mom making all your meals for you when you were a kid. You never had to think about what you were eating, you just ate what was put on your plate, 3 times a day. We have so many choices as an adult what foods we can consume, and for someone like me, that has no willpower when it comes to food choices, a strict plan works much better for me. The example of my daily calorie intake isnt an exaggeration either, i can and do regularly eat that much food over the course of a day. Its truly a miracle that I don't weigh 350 lbs so hopefully radically changing my diet will be a benefit, but here's the dilemma...
What do i do when the 10 days are over. Post on day 11 will include the "rigid" diet that i am going to try and stick to, a combination of easy to prepare, healthy foods so more to come on that.
